I exercise to live my life better. That means I like to work hard, but I still want to be able to stand up and walk up the stairs the next day. If my body is so sore from my workouts that I can’t move, I feel like I did it wrong. So when you come to my classes, expect me to suggest things that might make your workout more effective, but know that I won’t be insulted if you decide to stick with what you’re doing. I teach strength and conditioning classes that I hope make you feel stronger, more confident, and able to face the world. I also teach Mat Pilates classes that I hope leave you feeling calm, relaxed, and lighter. I might fill in a Barre or a Yoga class here and there too.
I fell into my fitness career haphazardly, as I’ve done many things in my life. The opportunity came up, and I took it because it sounded like fun. I grew up playing soccer (yes, “soccer”, it was Canada where “football” means something different), and in my early twenties my coach was certifying as a Pilates instructor and needed bodies to practice on. She offered the team free classes, I was in university and had no money…it was the perfect fit! It turns out I actually LOVE Pilates, so I kept at it even when I had to pay for it. After a few years she finally told me to just get my own certificate already, and since I had (still have, actually) so much respect for her and her opinion, I did it. I started teaching Mat Pilates in 2016.
In 2018 I made the leap into full time fitness because the day job I had no longer suited me, so I did some in house training at a studio geared towards women over the age of 55 and started teaching low impact cardio and weight classes. When Covid sent the world into lockdown I certified as a PT, and the next year got my reformer Pilates certification. Somewhere in there I taught some Barre to a lovely group of women that I still think about every now and then. My Yoga training is much more recent, I wrapped it up in the spring of 2026 and feel like I’ve still got loads to learn, but then we always do, don’t we?
So that’s it then. It’s not the kind of story they make movies about, but it’s real and I find a lot of meaning in the work that I do. Winners is my favourite workout spot and I’m absolutely delighted to tell people I work here.
